Fans react as an update emerges on Burnley’s interest in making Wales boss Craig Bellamy the Clarets’ new manager.
According to Pete O’Rourke, the club are ‘advancing in their pursuit of appointing Craig Bellamy as their new manager and are optimistic of agreeing a deal with Wales to land their top target’.
He became the early favourite after Scott Parker left Burnley by mutual consent in April, Mike Jackson placed in charge as interim for the remainder of the season.
Talks between the Clarets and the Football Association of Wales has been progressing, with BBC Sport reporting that no deal has been agreed yet and there would be compensation to sort.

He still has two years remaining on on his contract, as earlier this month, confirmed to the media that he while he had received interest from clubs, he is still committed to managing Wales, hopeful of taking them to Euro 2028.
Bellamy has previously been an Burnley assistant coach under Vincent Kompany and interim head coach. But could he be their main man as the club get set for life back in the second tier.
Since being appointed by Wales in 2024, he has managed 20 games, won 8, drew 7 and lost 5.
FAW bosses said to BBC Sport Wales they are “very confident” he’ll be with Wales until the end of Euro 2028.
“Everything’s in place, I get completely backed and it’s going to give me the opportunity in the next two years to improve again,” Bellamy said prior to the Ghana friendly.
“Links? I understand it but I don’t look too far. I love what I have here.
“I’ve been offered that elsewhere as well, but I have this here already. Wales gave me this opportunity and one or two might not have because I was conscious I haven’t managed before. Wales have given me this opportunity and I’m really grateful for that.
“I am ambitious, trust me. I want to earn loads and loads of money but there’s a time and now, at this present moment, it just doesn’t feel that time.”
Fans react as update emerges on Burnley’s interest in making Craig Bellamy as their new manager…
@ElnascabL: I cant help but think this is a disaster waiting to happen, Pace just going for someone he knows and likes. Hope im wrong though
@BFC442: It’s a bit of a bland appointment no? Hasn’t done much with wales – he’s comments when they didn’t qualify put me off him. Hope it’s not true
@Rossi16_: Brilliant move for him, the Wales fans (mostly Cardiff) have all turned on him and club football will suit him better. Go and get Steve Cooper.
@morgankin16: Everyone thinks he’s shit Swansea, Cardiff, Wrexham, Newport, Merthyr everyone thinks he’s shit.
@TTTR99: To jump ship at the first opportunity. Used Wales as his guinea pig preventing them playing at a World Cup. Cant wait for Manolo’s men to wipe the floor with them next month
@JaySor00: Please Burnley take him🤞🤞🤞
@MorgannWXM: Actually think he’ll probably smash it at Burnley, but very glad he’s gone. We don’t have the players for his system at all #Wales
@myftblpictures: I don’t think this is any great loss and there’s no way he was staying beyond 2028 anyway. After a promising start, he’s polarised most of the fanbase with poor results and strange team selections. If the next appointment is the wrong one, things could get a lot worse mind.
@BlackburnEnder: Hate to admit it, but this is a cracking choice by Burnley
@KieJW21: The problem with Bellamy is Wales have a pretty average national team, and they definitely don’t suite how he wants to play. At least here at Burnley he’ll be able to sign players that fit the profile he wants, the system he uses and I feel that’s better for him. I’m happy!
@ClaretJD: Don’t know what to think tbh
@jamieranford83: They are welcome. Talks a good game but we need a world class manager if we want to go to the next level.
@Harleyrhys_: Not bothered at all if he goes. Just bring in Steve Cooper or Osian Roberts thanks 👍
@Jonno2601: 10m for Isaak Davies incoming
@Malachy_1: Excited to see what Burnley play like with Mark Harris upfront
@Dylan_SCFC: That first year had everyone optimistic, and the atmosphere he cultivated was perfect. But the last 8 months has been inexcusable, and some of the decisions/comments have been embarrassing. Can’t say i’m too disappointed with him leaving..
@LorryPoet: What a fall from grace. From pulling on the glorious blue and white halves in the Prem to potentially managing a Yank franchise in the Chumpionship.
@Dilanccfc: Now we’re fucking talking
@WelshCanary94: I think this would benefit everyone involved.
@Telferino147: Given Wales drop off in performance, probably the right time for him to go
@jack_cym: What a fucking day. Wilson, Brandt, Gannon coming back and Bellamy fucking off 🔥
@connordavies612: He’ll undoubtedly beat us with Burnley as that squad is far too strong in the championship but Wales will be better off without him I think 🤷♂️ #ccfc
@SamuelAdams89: Rob Edwards will be the next Wales manager should Bellamy decide to take the Burnley job
@aaron97aw: Why’s it taken 8 weeks to get to option 1? Watching that England Wales game was PTSD of 23/24. That Bosnia game was Sorba Thomas lumping it in the box. It’s such a risk and arguably one we didn’t need to take, but maybe the board’s stubbornness means there’s no other options.
