Nia Jax has never been shy about dealing with criticism from WWE fans, and now she’s admitting that the very people who make her job worthwhile are also the ones who make it frustrating. In fact, when asked to name her favorite and least favorite parts of working for WWE, she gave the exact same answer.
During an appearance on the Keep It Aloha podcast, Jax was asked what she enjoys most about being a professional wrestler and what she dislikes about the job. Rather than pointing to the demanding travel schedule, physical punishment or long hours, she immediately singled out the WWE audience. Her response was short, but it said plenty about her relationship with the people watching her every week.
“Favorite is the fans.”
Without missing a beat, Jax followed that up with the exact opposite answer.
“Least favorite is the fans.”
Jax laughed about the contradiction before explaining that wrestling simply wouldn’t be the same without the audience. She pointed to the COVID-19 pandemic as proof of how important live crowds are to WWE, estimating that audience participation accounts for a massive portion of what makes professional wrestling work.
“Favorite because they I always say that in wrestling they’re and COVID definitely showed us this. Wrestling, the fans are about I want to say 80% of what we do.”
While Jax appreciates the energy and interaction that come with performing in front of WWE crowds, she also knows that the same people cheering one moment can be tearing wrestlers apart the next. For someone who has spent years dealing with criticism over her wrestling ability, appearance and performances, Jax understands that negative reactions are simply another part of the business. She admitted that the criticism can be frustrating, but she doesn’t necessarily view it as something that ruins the experience.
“Um and then also, you know, just like the criticism. But it’s also it’s all good. It’s all full circle.”
Jax also made it clear that she doesn’t genuinely hate her job. Even the demanding travel schedule has allowed her to experience different countries and cultures that she otherwise might never have visited.
Her comments show just how complicated the relationship between WWE Superstars and their audience can be. The reactions are what make professional wrestling exciting, but the criticism that comes with being in the public eye isn’t always easy to deal with.
At the end of the day, Jax isn’t looking to escape the people watching her matches. She recognizes that their reactions, whether positive or negative, are part of what makes WWE what it is. And considering how much criticism she’s faced throughout her career, she knows better than most that you can’t always have one without the other.
