William Hill News provide their best bets and predictions ahead of the 2026 World Cup Group E encounter between Ivory Coast and Ecuador, which is set to get underway at 12am on Monday morning.

12 years on from Ivory Coast’s defeat to Greece at the 2014 tournament, the African nation return to the biggest stage of all – having missed out on Russia in 2018 and Qatar in 2022.

Emerse Fae’s side are looking to rewrite the history books, with Ivory Coast having never progressed beyond the group stage of a World Cup competition. That could well change this summer, especially with the 48-team format gives the best third-placed teams the opportunity to progress to the knockout rounds.

This contest is particularly interesting as – with many expecting Germany to claim top spot – it looks a straight up dogfight between Ivory Coast and Ecuador for second place in Group E.

Ivory Coast v Ecuador Best Bets:

    • Both teams to score – 11/10
    • Ecuador to win and both teams to score – 13/2
    • Ecuador to win 3-2 – 45/1

Ecuador have been touted as potential dark horses to win the 2026 World Cup and they are unbeaten in two years – Sebastian Beccacece’s team have been pragmatic and resilient in all areas of the pitch.

A steely defensive unit is the foundation for their success. Ecuador have kept a clean sheet in 13 matches on their 19-game unbeaten run and that structure and stability will make them very difficult to beat, particularly in the early stages of the competition.

At the other end of the pitch, Ecuador have struggled to hit the back of the net but that could all change – I’m expecting an open and expansive contest, particularly with so much at stake for both teams. With Curacao to come for both sides, we could see Ivory Coast and Ecuador adopt an attacking approach in a bid to gain an early advantage in Group E.

Ivory Coast v Ecuador Match Odds:

    • Ivory Coast – 21/10
    • Draw – 19/10
    • Ecuador – 7/5

Do Ecuador have enough quality in the final third to go deep into the tournament? Only time will tell. The statistics suggest that goals may be at a premium but I’m going against the football betting odds and siding with a high scoring affair.

Ivory Coast have plenty of attacking flair and it’ll be interesting to see how the Ecuador defence holds up. While the African nation will enjoy success, my gut is telling me that Ecuador will still come out on top.
