Michael Carrick is the new favourite with William Hill to be the first Premier League manager to leave, following Manchester United’s 2-0 Champions League defeat to Atletico Madrid.

The United boss has shortened from 2/1 to 6/4, moving ahead of Fulham manager Alvaro Arbeloa, who is now priced at 9/4.

The defeat comes amid discontent at Old Trafford, with Lisandro Martinez criticising the club’s leadership over a lack of recruitment. Carrick faces the challenge of maintaining support from both his players and the board as pressure on his position grows.

Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi is next in the betting at 5/1, followed by Pierre Sage at 8/1.

First Premier League Manager to Leave Odds:

    • Michael Carrick – 6/4
    • Alvaro Arbeloa – 9/4
    • Roberto De Zerbi – 5/1
    • Pierre Sage – 8/1
    • BAR – 10/1

Spokesperson for William Hill, Lee Phelps, said: “Following a drab defeat in the Champions League and with simmering discontent among the ranks at Manchester United, Michael Carrick’s position at Old Trafford looks increasingly insecure.

“After United’s 2-0 loss to Atletico Madrid on Tuesday, Carrick is our new favourite to be the first Premier League manager to leave, having shortened into 6/4 from 2/1, leaving clear daylight between him and Fulham’s Alvaro Arbeloa at 9/4.

“And with Lisandro Martinez launching a scathing attack on the United leadership for their lack of recruitment, Carrick looks to have a job on his hands to keep both players and board on side.”
