The arrangement makes commercial sense, but it changes the identity of the fight. Fury against Joshua was sold for years as the defining all-British heavyweight contest, the kind of event that needed 90,000 people inside Wembley. Taking it to Manhattan turns that national occasion into an international television production.

British viewers receive the least convenient end of the agreement. Fans lose the opportunity to attend a home stadium event, while those watching on Netflix may remain awake until early Saturday morning for the main event. American scheduling has taken priority over the audience that kept the rivalry alive through years of failed negotiations.

Daily Mail Sport detailed the New York agreement further down its report, stating that both fighters have signed contracts. An official announcement is planned before the end of August, with the launch possibly taking place at a famous British landmark.

Holding the press launch in Britain creates an awkward look. Organizers would rely on British interest to promote a fight they decided was more valuable in the United States.

The report leaves one contractual question unanswered. Eddie Hearn repeatedly insisted that Joshua had signed for a UK event and maintained that moving it elsewhere would cost the organizers. No revised purse or financial concession has been revealed.

Joshua may have received better terms before accepting Madison Square Garden, but that cannot be treated as fact. The only firm conclusion is that his side no longer blocked the venue change.

New York brings another selling point through Joshua’s history at the arena. Andy Ruiz Jr. dropped him four times and stopped him in the seventh round there in June 2019. Defeating Fury inside the same building would allow Joshua to replace his worst Madison Square Garden memory with one of his biggest wins.

This fight no longer determines the leading heavyweight of the era. Oleksandr Usyk defeated Fury and Joshua twice each. What remains is a lucrative meeting between two famous former champions, and the choice of venue underlines it.

Wembley promised history, atmosphere, and identity. New York delivered the television window and financial return. The money won.
