Richard Holliday’s WWE future may not be confirmed, but he gave fans another reason to believe something could be coming after leaving his boots in the ring at GCW Melee in Manchester.
Holliday lost to Bear Bronson at the event, then stayed seated in the ring as he appeared to think about his next move. He showed respect to Bronson, stood up and acknowledged the crowd. Then he untied his boots. Holliday placed them in the middle of the ring, bowed to the fans and walked away from ringside.
Leaving boots in the ring is often used to signal retirement or the end of a wrestler’s run with a promotion. Holliday did not announce that he was retiring, which means the gesture could also be a sign that he is preparing for a major move. That timing is impossible to ignore because Holliday has recently been connected to WWE.
It was previously stated that WWE had Holliday on its radar as the company prepared to bring in more wrestlers and a referee. His name was mentioned alongside Hiromu Takahashi as part of the talent WWE had shown interest in.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter later pushed back on the idea that Holliday was close to signing. Dave Meltzer said there was no confirmed deal and that the situation should still be treated as rumor.
Holliday has taken part in multiple WWE tryouts over the years, so the interest is not difficult to believe. He also has the look, promo skills and character work that could fit easily into WWE or NXT. His name has surfaced elsewhere as well. Holliday was considered for the Mr. Elegance role in TNA, but that move never came together.
Now Holliday has left his boots in a GCW ring while WWE interest continues to hang over him. There is still no confirmation that he has signed, but the gesture made sure the conversation was not going away. Ringside News will keep you updated as information becomes available.
