Alexia Putellas has expressed her excitement about being a part of the London City Lionesses’ project as she vowed she was “100% committed” to the cause.
Putellas completed her stunning free transfer to London City from Barcelona in July following a trophy-laden 14-year spell in Spain.
The two-time Ballon d’Or winner appeared 507 times in all competitions for Barca, second to only Melanie Serrano (516), while her 232 goals are the most for the women’s team.
During her time with Barca, Putellas won 38 major honours, including four Champions League crowns and 10 Liga F titles.
But she is now a part of a London City side who only made their debut in the Women’s Super League last season. They finished sixth and have looked to build on that by bringing in several star signings to take them to the next level.
Mapi Leon, Mary Earps, Nicole Anyomi, Janni Thomsen, Kadidiatou Diani, Rosa Kafaji and Daniela Arques have also joined Eder Maestre’s side ahead of the new campaign.
“Both can live together, my mentality and the moment of the project,” Putellas said of the change. “I’m going to bring to the project whatever the project needs from me.
“I’m 100% committed. I’m hungry to win, I’m hungry to be better day after day, to fight with my team-mates for victory.
“I’m going to try to give my best to the team and let’s see at the end of the season how good we were.”

Putellas is poised to make her WSL debut on September 4 when London City welcome Manchester United to Copperjax Community Stadium on the opening day of the season.
London City managed eight wins from their 22 league matches last term (D3 L11), though only one of those came against a side that finished above them in the league standings (4-2 v Tottenham).
And the competitiveness of the WSL, which saw Manchester City win their first league title since 2016 last season, is what attracted Putellas to make the move to England.
“In my opinion, you never know what will be the result of the game. It’s a very competitive league, week after week,” Putellas added.
“We haven’t started yet but, if I have to imagine, all the games will push you to your limits. It’s a very entertaining league and I think that’s a key point for the fans.”
