Nottingham Forest have been handed a key boost in the race to sign Givairo Read from Feyenoord, having launched another offer to sign the right-back.

The Tricky Trees have already enjoyed an impressive summer, welcoming Xaver Schlager and closing in on the arrival of Ousmane Diomande from Sporting Club. Now, they’re looking to hand Oliver Glasner his next signing.

Read certainly makes sense, too. The Dutchman can play both left-back and right-back in the same way that Neco Williams can. In one move, Glasner will have an upgrade on Ola Aina and backup for Williams.

The numbers don’t make for pretty reading as far as Aina is concerned. Whilst he did struggle on the injury front in the last campaign, the ruthlessness of Premier League football suggests that it will be his place up for grabs if Read arrives this summer.

If Romano’s latest update is anything to go by, then a deal is certainly getting closer between Feyenoord and those at the City Ground, who are looking to continue their summer business.

As reported by Romano, Nottingham Forest have now submitted a new bid to sign Read. Their latest offer is worth around €20m (£17m) and the Dutchman is now open to joining the Midlands club, providing the green light.

It remains to be seen whether Feyenoord accept Forest’s second offer, but it’s certainly a positive sign that the two clubs have continued negotiations.

Dubbed “fantastic” by scout Jacek Kulig, the 20-year-old fullback could be on his way to the Premier League and Nottingham Forest as the new campaign rapidly approaches.

If Read is anything to go by, then Forest aren’t giving up on their targets easily this summer. Alongside the right-back, the Midlands club are also among the frontrunners to sign Lucas Bergvall from Tottenham Hotspur.

The midfielder has made it clear to the North London club that he wants to leave, but they will only sell at a hefty fee this summer. Whether Forest, or other clubs for that matter, reach that price remains the big question.

After losing Elliot Anderson to Manchester City, there’s no doubt that Forest need another midfield star ahead of next season.
