    By John Virr – 2nd X1 Scorer

Game 1 was a Group game and the second game a “friendly”.

    GAME 1 – GROUP GAME

Winning the toss Yorkshire chose to bat first, however things didn’t start well as Yash Vagadia was bowled from the 3rd ball and Harry Duke run out from the last ball of the first over: 1-2.

Will Bennison joined Owen Smith with Bennison, the aggressor – they added 84 in 63 balls before Smith was caught at long on for 34 from 31 balls (3×4;1×6). Ajay Khunti, who had scored a hundred against us last week for SACA couldn’t repeat this and he departed caught at deep Backward square leg for 4.

Bennison reached his half century from 39 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes and he finished 86 not out from 58 balls with a total of 6 fours and 4 sixes. Joe Thompson accompanied him and he was 18 not out as Yorkshire posted 151-4.

Dan Moriarty had George Harris caught at mid on in the first over by Smith and in the 7th over Lancashire found themselves 33-4. Wickets fell regularly to reduce them to 82-7 and 110-9 still needing 42 from 20 balls – Yorkshire very much looking like recording our first win of the group games. However Parmar and Brown took it to the last ball.

Isaac Bepey bowled the last over with our hosts requiring 11 – a leg bye was followed by a 3, a couple of singles and 2 wides leaving 3 needed from the last ball – a thick edge sent the ball towards the third man boundary where Khunti fielded well enabling Harry Duke to complete the run out – Yorkshire win by 1 run.

There were 3 wickets each for Moriarty (3-36), Bepey (3-18) and Will Rogers (3-26).

    GAME 2 – FRIENDLY

Lancashire batted first – Rocky Flintoff was run out in the second over and Fonseka was lbw to Rogers – 33-2. Harris 38 from 27 was brilliantly caught running in from deep cover by Vagadia and Harry Singh made a run a ball 32.

Steady contributions enabled them to make 163-6. Will Rogers finishing with 4-30 from his 4 overs.

Smith was caught at mid on without scoring and Khunti made 29 from 21 but when Bennisonwas lbw for nought we were 46-3. Vagadia made 17 from 9 balls but only Harry Duke made a major contribution making 47 from 41 balls as we were dismissed for 113 to lose by 50 runs.

Next action is at Weetwood on Friday 29th May with 2 T20 friendly games against the University. This is followed by a trip to Old Trafford where the schedule has changed: Monday and Tuesday 1st and 2nd June will be a 2 day red ball game with 1 T20 on Wednesday 3rd June
