That maneuver generates public interest without requiring him to commit to another bout. After retiring, he needs proof that sufficient demand exists before financial backers will consider another enormous purse.
Turki Alalshikh financed his fights against Israil Madrimov and Canelo Alvarez, but neither performance produced the sustained violence Turki regularly promotes. He arguably lost to Madrimov, then defeated Canelo through jabbing, movement, and holding. It was smart boxing, though far removed from Turki’s talk about broken bones and smashed faces.
A Crawford-Ennis fight may require Saudi support because traditional pay-per-view economics alone might not cover his asking price. There is no guarantee that funding remains available after the cautious Canelo fight.
