Sanjay Manjrekar, on Wednesday, urged BCCI and the ICC to be stricter with young Indian batters like Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Yashasvi Jaiswal and not let them get away with their behaviour.
Both Sooryavanshi and Jaiswal have been recently in the news following their heated exchanges in two different series.
During India A’s recent tri-series in Sri Lanka, the 15-year-old Sooryavanshi had an altercation with Vishen Halambage where he ended up pushing the Sri Lankan cricketer after getting dismissed.
Meanwhile, Jaiswal’s incident happened during the ongoing second Test against Sri Lanka. The Indian opener got in a heat argument with Asitha Fernando and ended up contacting his helmet with the Sri Lankan quick.
Sooryavanshi was fined 50 per cent of his match fee alongside Halambage. But since A tours don’t come under ICC, the fines were levied by the two cricketing boards of the countries.
In Jaiswal’s case, the two cricketers involved were fined 25 per cent of their match fee by the ICC.
Manjrekar took to social media and posted that the global cricketing body and the Indian cricket board should not train the two youngsters to repeat such behaviours.
“It’s not good for the sport & crucially their own future too,” Manjrekar wrote.
