Leicester fans vent anger and call for manager Russell Martin to go after a 4-0 defeat to Oxford in League One on Saturday afternoon.

Two goals from Mark Harris (8′, 60′), with Mo Missanga (57′) and Jamie McDonnell (77′) adding to the scoreline, send the U’s up to 10th with 7 points.

But for Leicester, who have only one win from their opening five league games, are down to 17th with 5 points.

And it’s fair to say, patience is wearing thin amongst the Leicester faithful, fans walking out early, calling for Martin to be sacked, others singing “your football it sh*te”.

Leicester’s Russell Martin said, as per the club website: “As you’d imagine, there’s a lot of hurt people in the dressing room.
“We were so soft today. We conceded such poor goals. We didn’t give ourselves a chance in the game. At the start of the second half, they’re in our box from kick-off.

“The kick-offs probably summed us up today, the decision-making. We lost the game in the first 25 minutes to half an hour with the lack of fight in the duels.

“We came out on the wrong side of every challenge, every tackle, and you can’t – at any level – especially here.

“And then we get caught on the transition chasing the game so many times. That’s maybe my fault, it probably is, it will be.

“I took off a couple of really experienced players to try and inject some energy. We have such a young team at that point, so the decision making, and maybe it’s a learning for me.

“We had a lot of guys who were playing their third game in a week for the first time in their careers on the pitch, but it’s no excuse.

“We have to be so much better than that. It’s a real wake-up call and what’s so frustrating is, with all the energy that’s been building here, the last three performances, the last couple of results, we then go and produce that.

“We couldn’t go again today. The energy was a big problem, but even if you’re feeling tired, we have to be so much better.”

On why the game got away from Leicester: “Energy, aggression and fight – and we lacked it in the first half an hour.

“I guess the learning is we have to make changes when we have a three-game week again, but it’s still not acceptable.

“We’re learning but we have to make sure this is the worst we feel all season.

“We have a lot of days to work. [On Sunday], we’ll watch this. We’ll watch it [on Saturday night] but, the players, we’ll make sure we’re all really aware what the problems were.

“I don’t think I’ll feel any different about it after watching it back. I’ll probably feel worse about it than I did today. I apologise to everyone.

“The staff, they don’t deserve that. The fans. We have to be so much better, which we will be. It’s why I can be calm about it, but to lose here by that scoreline is not acceptable and we have to be better.”

Oxford’s Aaron Ramsey said: “Yeah, obviously we’re delighted. You know, it’s really difficult to come away from home and to have a performance like that and and and to win 4-0.

“So, I’m really pleased with the team. I’m really proud of the boys today and the effort and the application that they that they put into this and as well in front of 2,000 fans. You know, it was a really special moment at the end there to to share with them. So I said I wanted to create these connections and you know these sort of afternoons help with that.”

On how we’ve got to this point: “Yeah, I mean look we’re up against really tough opposition away from home, they do ask a lot of questions of you, but yeah, we I felt like we caused them a few problems and we really wanted a you know, we built in different shapes today and we created the overloads in certain areas of the pitch and you know, then transitional moments as well.

“They were clear, they were there on many occasions for us to be really dangerous and felt like you know we executed that really well today and in fact we created a few more opportunities. So, for us that was really pleasing that it was over the course of 90 minutes, full concentration and, nice touch as well to keep a clean sheet.”

Here’s the social media reaction while Leicester fans vent anger and call for Russell Martin to go after a 4-0 defeat to Oxford…

@RFox55_: Get him gone tonight – I’m serious.

@James98LCFC: Utterly pathetic. Completely collapsed after the second. The spineless mentality of the last few seasons fully showed it’s head in the second half. PATHETIC! The only word that sums that up.

@JHardlcfc: I normally never wish a manager be sacked so early but this is atrocious if we don’t get rid now we are in trouble facts the football is shite it’s leaving our already very shit defense open and even more shit

@TheSirRobotto: I’m one of the very few optimistic Leicester fans left, but holy shit, this is actually criminal. This might be the worst performance and result I’ve seen in decades. This might end 5-0 Oxford. Awful. #LCFC #OUFC

@hursty16: No positives today only the fact that we restricted them to 4. Massive credit to @OUFCOfficial who outplayed and outfought us and simply showed how you should play in League One. Massive week for RM because this type of result won’t wash much longer!! #lcfc 💙🦊🤬

@th0masshaw2000: Can’t even recognise this club anymore… absolutely remarkable how just nobody gives a shit

@kateblakey40: #LCFC = an enigma. I include fans in that. Always 1 defeat away from imploding. The told u so’s. The pile ons. The singling out. We lost. It was shite. But we’ll go again. We’re in league 1. Time to properly accept it. Have you? This is a project & we’ll all be there next match

@BlueTintedLCFC: Russell Martin blaming that absolute bumming on ‘youth and inexperience’ is fucking horrific. What a dick. Without said youth on Tuesday we’d have been beaten then too #lcfc

@arlowhite: There are potentially more depths for this club to dredge, but this is a true nadir. The lowest point in the club’s 142 year history. League position, quality, spirit, hope, ownership. Right here. Right now. Yet, it’s a fantastic time to buy this club. Roll up roll up #lcfc

@CharlieJC93: One positive from yesterday is that Russell Martin has ignited genuine anger in the fan base once more. There’s been so much apathy in recent years it’s hard to build any momentum around protests against senior leadership. The longer he stays, that may start to change #LCFC
