Lee Clark takes responsibility as Hartlepool suffer a fourth defeat of the season, losing 2-0 away at Kidderminster.

A night to forget for Hartlepool and their defender Neo Eccleston who scored an own goal in the first half, and then got sent off in the second, with Callum Stewart scoring a 85th minute winner.

The result sees Hartlepool sitting 12th with 9 points from 7 games, Kidderminster are 2nd with 14 points from 7 games, and that’s ahead of this weekend’s matches.

    Fantastic work from Ethan. 💨

Hartlepool boss Lee Clark said: “Really poor, really disappointing. Worst performance by a mile this season. No positives to take, but I accept responsibility. You know, I’m the leader and we didn’t take the momentum from the weekend into tonight, from the first minute., Kidderminster were better than us.

“It was 4-4-2 against 4-4-2. Out of possession, we were poor. We didn’t drop on any second balls, we didn’t win any first contacts, they won everything. Ultimately it didn’t allow us to play and when we did have the ball we were really poor in our execution of passes, we never really got any passes going, we didn’t test the keeper in the first half.

“We looked actually more solid in the second half when we down to 10 men than we did in the first half. I’ve got to take that one and I’ve got to make sure that it’s never repeated and we go again.”

Interviewer: “You mentioned the second half there. Neo Eccleston got a red card in the opening stages but you stayed in the game and you almost had that opportunity at the end by Cole on a different evening you know that could have went in the far post.”

Clark: “Yeah, your right hand on Cole’s been brilliant in the finishing drills on the training ground. He’s got a lovely left foot so I was expecting the to nestle in the bottom corner but it wasn’t to be. They went down there and then a couple of minutes later I made it too but let’s be honest they deserved a victory. If we had nicked to point there, you know, it would have been one of them games where you’ve never contributed a lot. So, yeah, there’s no qualms about the result.”

Interviewer: “We’re back in action again on Wednesday against Altrincham. Is it the case of now, you know, with you in this game, having a chat with the squad and we go again and try and get a positive result on the road?”

Clark: “Yeah, everything has to improve. My performance has to improve massively and everyone else is off the back of that does so we have to go again. We cannot allow this to keep happening. It’s like on a rollercoaster, one minute we’re up, next minute we’re down and it’s too inconsistent.

“I know, you think that you come off the back of a decent performance on Saturday with a win, then you come here and you show determination, desire, get on the ball, be competitive. But no, we didn’t do any of that tonight.”

Interviewer: “Is that one of the most frustrating things for you this evening after coming off such a positive result on Saturday not to bring that here and continue that momentum?”

Clark: “Yeah, I think we’ve got to analyse it, we’ve got to look at it and understand why. I maybe I was wrong to keep the same players, maybe I need to start freshening things up and see what’s going on and what we need to change because we kind of keep having this one win, one loss, one win, a couple of losses. So yeah, it’s not acceptable really.”

Interviewer: “Just a word on the supporters 225 of them travel down here again another good backing.”

Clark: “Yeah brilliant, they were top level we were poor and so you well we’re in the rights to let this pleasure known to myself take that on the chin and I’ve got to make sure I bounce back and get the team ready for the next game.”

Here’s how fans reacted after Lee Clark takes responsibility as Hartlepool suffer a fourth defeat of the season…

@benmcmorris03: How many times are we gunna need to bounce back before we become 16th place slip

@William94161728: Trying to defend his 4 4 2 there haha embarrassing. Just admit you don’t understand any other formations

@dredge5316: Need to bounce back by sacking you tonight save the season now

@TylerInCharge2: Same comments every interview. Nothing will change with him in charge. Get him gone NOW

@Alan_R_Clark: What momentum from Saturday? The momentum was with Woking at the end of that game. Mike Bassett comes to mind!

@Pools1908: No he needs to go! Our attendance has already dropped by 1000 FFS. He clearly isn’t a manager/coach. Get rid now and whoever hired him needs to be questioned

@AdamEglintine: Last weeks win was not a decent performance I’m sorry but we’ve been absolutely shit every single game this season

@MbwLdurham: Sorry disagree with him, his system is shite and despite what he says it hasn’t worked has it, all so don’t be having a dig at fans, because that was clearly what he was doing on tees when he said, all can be managers and coaches etc, bollocks as fans we can see it’s not working

@BriLeeStokle: No bouncing back Clark just leave. We have seen more than enough that your not capable as a manager of Hartlepool United. 47 goals last season between the front 3 and you cant get a tune out of then. We are the lowest scores in the league and becoming a laughing stock. Just go.

@BLewis2023: CORNER FLAG NOW!!!! There’s no possible way this man is in charge on Wednesday night! His football is absolutely fucking dreadful 2 SHOTS all night? What the fuck. Sack him now and bring in Maynard. Show some bollocks landon

    @poolsla:
    Christ that was absolutely horrific
    Battered all over the pitch
    We look lost…
    No pattern …..
    No threat…..
    Made them look like Barca
    💩
