Jemimah Rodrigues chipped in with a handy 18-ball 28 as her Southern Brave side prevailed over Birmingham Phoenix by 24 runs in a group stage fixture of The Hundred in Southampton on Thursday.
Put in to bat, Brave managed 140/3 in 100 balls, powered by Maia Bouchier’s 31-ball 45 and Lizelle Lee’s 28-ball 43. After Laura Wolvaardt fell early for a 15-ball 11, Jemimah’s sprightly unbeaten 28-run effort helped Brave end on a high. Her three boundaries off the last set — where she was also handed a reprieve — particularly made a difference.
Birmingham’s Fatima Sana was particularly taken to the cleaners by Brave, conceding 33 runs in 15 balls.
Chasing 141, Davina Perrin’s fifty was a valiant effort, but found little support beyond Tammy Beaumont who managed a 23-ball 22. Skipper Ellyse Perry was unbeaten on a 11-ball 16, but could do little to arrest her side’s slide until it was too late for a recovery.
Jemimah starred in the field too, helping Tilly Corteen-Coleman remove Beaumont, the catch coming after her teammates had embarrassingly dropped a few to power Perrin and Beaumont’s early charge.
This means Southern Brave is unbeaten so far in the 2026 edition of the tournament and stands at the top of the table with 16 points.
On July 31, Smriti Mandhana and Richa Ghosh will be in action as Manchester Super Giants take on Trent Rockets at the Emirates Old Trafford.
