The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 has delivered on its ambition to stage the biggest women’s cricket event in history.

Across its 33 matches, the tournament generated 471 million total viewing hours, making it the most-watched ICC Women’s T20 World Cup ever.

That figure means the 2026 edition outperformed its 2024 predecessor, which generated 184 million viewing hours, by 156 percent.

India and Pakistan’s group-stage encounter in Birmingham also became the most-watched ICC Women’s T20 World Cup match in history. The fixture generated more than 77 million viewing hours globally, with current indications suggesting it is the most-watched women’s T20 match ever.

Three other matches from the tournament surpassed the previous benchmark and, alongside India vs. Pakistan, make up the four highest-viewed ICC Women’s T20 World Cup matches of all time: Australia vs. India (54 million viewing hours), South Africa vs. India (51 million) and Bangladesh vs. India (42 million).

In the host market, the tournament became the most-watched ICC Women’s T20 World Cup ever on Sky Sports, generating 18.2 million total viewing hours.

An average audience of 381,000 tuned in to watch England matches, a 69 percent increase on the previous edition, while the Final between England and Australia recorded a peak audience of 678,000.

The tournament’s scale extended even further beyond its global audience. An independent economic impact assessment by Nielsen found the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 generated USD 93.8 million in total impact for the United Kingdom (UK).

Included in that figure is direct and secondary economic impact and media value generated for host cities. Meanwhile, more than 13,000 full- and part-time roles were either generated or supported in the UK throughout the event.

Separate Nielsen research identified further significance in the tournament’s social impact.

Among respondents who had engaged with the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, 81 percent of the 500 parents of girls aged 7-15 said the tournament helped change the perception that cricket is only a sport for men. Of the 500 women aged 16-30 surveyed, 73 percent agreed with the same statement.

A further 81 percent of young girls’ parents said it had increased their daughter’s interest in joining a cricket club or academy, while 80 percent believed the tournament would have a positive impact on women’s sport in England.

“The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 has made a powerful statement about the future of the women’s game. This tournament delivered record crowds, viewership, reach and engagement, and demonstrated what is possible when women’s cricket is given the platform, investment and belief it deserves,” ICC Chairman Jay Shah said.

“This is not the end point of our ambition; it is the platform for what comes next. The ICC will continue to invest in women’s cricket, expand opportunity, strengthen pathways and take the game to more fans, more communities and more markets around the world. The success of this tournament gives us even greater confidence in the future we are building,” he added.

“We deliberately widened access to the event across platforms, cultures, languages, interest segments and markets, combining world-class broadcast coverage with free streaming, digital-first distribution, creator-led storytelling, pop culture plug-ins and new ways for fans to interact with the game. ICC events must continue to serve as platforms that deepen and widen fandom, elevate our athletes and create cultural, commercial and social impact around the game,” ICC CEO, Sanjog Gupta, added.

The immense global audience and economic impact data add to a tournament that had already set numerous new records for attendance, digital engagement and fan experience.

A cumulative 245,815 spectators attended across the event’s 25 matchdays, comfortably surpassing the previous ICC Women’s T20 World Cup attendance record by more than 100,000 fans. The 28,887 people who attended the Final at Lord’s also established a new record high for the largest crowd at a women’s cricket match in the UK.

Across the ICC’s digital platforms, tournament content generated 3.2 billion views, a near 250 percent increase on the previous edition. The ICC Creator Club brought together more than 80 creators from nine countries, producing more than 2,000 posts, 1.1 billion+ views and 50 million engagements. The JioStar-ICC content creator stream contributed 600 million of those views alone.
