Matt Law’s piece for the Telegraph today is all about the Chelsea ownership, taking stock after four chaotic years in charge.
There’s an interesting line in there about the changing balance of power between Behdad Eghbali and Todd Boehly. Law notes that the latter has moved out of the limelight in the last couple of years, while Eghbali has taken centre stage. There may be a reason for that related to the sacking of Mauricio Pochettino in May 2024.
Boehly battle over Pochettino may have brought bad blood

“[He] decided around that time to allow other people to take a lead on football decisions.”
All parties are now apparently aligned on the appointment of Xabi Alonso – but that division over Pochettino does feel like it might have been a tipping point. By the end of that summer there was a “civil war” reported between the major players.
In other news…
Whatever happens with the above, the crucial day will be in May 2026, when the chairman role passes from Boehly to someone chosen by Clearlake.
Chelsea and Liverpool have ended up with new managers this summer, and most expected them to go the other way. It’s an interesting story of how they ended up where they are.
