Leyton Orient amuse fans on social media with The Inbetweeners inspired new signing announcement video for Alex Gilbert.

With over 3 million views and 20,000 likes in less than 20 hours of it being published onto social media, fair to say the League One outfit have smashed it with this one.

Like many clubs in the transfer window over recent years, clubs are getting creative, using a funny scene from a much loved show or film, and revealing their new signing, with minimal acting required.

The Inbetweeners has been used many times, but this one done by Leyton Orient really has proved popular, take a look for yourself…

Gilbert said to the club’s media: “I’m a creative midfielder that can drop deep but also be box-to-box as well.

“I have had some really good conversations with the manager about his plans for me and plans for the club. That really excited me.

“It is important for me to join the right club for the next stage of my career and I was happy to be patient to make sure I made the right decision.

“I spoke to a number of clubs over the summer and believe that Orient is the best place for me. I can’t wait to get started.”

Check out his first interview with the club, in full, below…

Head Coach Richie Wellens said: “Alex has proved in recent years that he can be a really good player at this level. He is a threat from set-plays, in terms of his delivery from dead-ball situations, and he can play as either an eight or a ten.

“He is another good character and I had some good conversations with him on the phone about where I see him making an impact for us.

“He asked a lot of questions about us as well, which I always like. He is confident in his ability and is a player of good value already. I’m looking forward to working with him.”

Scott Mitchell, O’s Director of Football, added: “Alex has won a promotion at this level before and is a player with a lot of technical ability.

“He’s been in teams in recent years that are used to winning, and used to winning in different ways. He was an important part of the Middlesbrough squad that almost reached the Premier League last season.

“Alex had lots of offers over the summer and sees Leyton Orient as the best place for the next step in his career.

“We’re delighted he has chosen us. He has kept himself in good condition but may need a couple of weeks to get himself up to speed and match fit.

Once he is ready then he’ll be a great asset for us. The fact that we’ve been able to bring Alex in highlights the continued investment and support from Nigel, David and the board to help the team grow and develop.”

Bristol Rovers announce their new signing with hilarious scene from The Inbetweeners

@rivotufc7: He’s absolutely nailed that to be fair 🤣🤣🤣

@markdevlin7: Some of our media team are clearly frustrated film producers 😂😂

@Dannynickz: Anyone’s club could sign Mbappe, Bellingham and Vinicius in the same window yet Leyton orient still win the transfer window with this, unreal 🤣🤣

@daviepearson24: Fair play to the admin 🤣👏 shame it never worked out at the Boro, good luck at orient

@craigyjones17: Fair play, any videos which require a player to act, even just saying one line, are usually terrible. This is brilliantly executed though 👏😂

@Packer_Joey: Cracking player and a gd bloke too. I would have taken him back at Charlton. U have done very well to get him. I bet within 15 mins of your debut, u will all be looking at each other and thinking- wow! We have a good one here. Good luck for the season 🙂

@CharltonLife: This is quality 🤣 when he moves he’s a Comms team dream signing! #cafc

@leytonorientear: This has had a fair bit of attention, and what’s impressive about it is that Gilbert can clearly act a bit, and seems to really relish his role here. Most footballers tend to shrink when asked to do anything like this.

@Boropolis: All the best, Mr Gilbert.

@OrientBanter: We’ve had a number of bangers when it comes to signing and announcements this season … Welcome aboard Mr Gilbert.

@lewisaird_: It’s always great when the player gets onboard and doesn’t look held hostage in these types of transfer videos 🤣

@robbeorn: This is unbelievable. @leytonorientfc media team deserve a BAFTA for this. 👏👏👏

@Borochubster: Love this. He’ll do very well at this level and should be at a Championship club really.

@JoePavett00: I must say for a club who couldn’t afford anyone 48 hrs ago, we’ve made 3 fucking great signings since then. I consider Richie well and truly backed.  Slightly concerned we’re a little short at DM, but backed nonetheless.

@philmunnsradio: The one thing you notice about the transfer window is there are a lot of Inbetweeners fans running club social media accounts 🤣

@derekclarksport: Leyton Orient should be promoted for this… unreal video 👏🏻😂
