Alfie Hewett is through to the quarter-finals of the men’s wheelchair singles at the French Open but fellow Briton Gordon Reid lost his first-round match.

Hewett, 28, beat French wildcard Guilhem Laget 6-3 6-0 on Court Suzanne Lenglen after their match was moved due to rain in Paris.

The 10-time Grand Slam champion has won the French Open on three occasions but last lifted the clay title in 2021.

He will face China’s Ji Zhenxu for a place in the semi-finals later in the week.

Earlier, 34-year-old Reid was beaten 6-2 6-4 by eight-time Grand Slam champion Tokito Oda in a rain-interrupted match.

It is the first time the Scot has failed to reach at least the quarter-finals at Roland Garros, having made his debut at the competition in 2013.

Reid will be back in action alongside Hewett in the men’s wheelchair doubles on Wednesday when they face French-Brazilian partners Frederic Cattaneo and Daniel Rodrigues.

The British top seeds have won the past six editions of the men’s wheelchair doubles in the French capital.

Oda has been the dominant force in men’s wheelchair singles over the past 12 months, winning four Grand Slam titles in succession.

The Japanese star, who won Paralympic gold on the Paris clay in 2024, is also bidding for a fourth successive French Open crown.

Elsewhere, in the mixed doubles, Briton Neal Skupski and his American partner Desirae Krawczyk lost their quarter-final tie 7-6 (7-5) 7-5 against German-French pairing Laura Siegemund and Edouard Roger-Vasselin.
