Phil Foden reiterated Manchester City’s desire to get back to title-winning form in the post-Pep Guardiola era.

Man City did not manage to win the Premier League in either of Guardiola’s final two seasons in charge.

It marked the first time in Guardiola’s managerial career that he had gone two straight campaigns without winning a league title.

City did win both the EFL Cup and FA Cup last term, giving Guardiola two trophies to bow out on, but they ultimately fell short of matching Arsenal in the league.

Enzo Maresca has now taken charge, and Foden – who penned a new long-term contract on Wednesday – says a revitalised squad are raring to go for the new season.

“I think it’s just in you and it’s in the club as well,” Foden said of the hunger to win titles.

“We’re always fighting for the next title or the next challenge and that’s the club we want to be.

“We want to be a massive club competing for all trophies and you can see the attitude of the players even in the first couple of training sessions that we’re raring to go again and trying to win trophies.”

Guardiola is not the only stalwart to have left City over the summer, with John Stones and Bernardo Silva having brought the curtain down on their time at the club, too.

Stones is being linked with a move to Chelsea, while Silva has already joined Real Madrid.

City began their rebuild last season, signing the likes of Marc Guehi, Antoine Semenyo, Rayan Cherki and Tijanni Reijnders. They have spent big this summer on signing Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest, and Lille’s Ayyoub Bouaddi is reportedly a target.

Of City’s squad, Foden said: “It’s got a really good mix of young, fresh legs and a bit of experience.

“Players that have won a lot of things and players who maybe haven’t. That balance is so good to have, hopefully we can keep pushing each other to get better and fight for titles. That’s the team we want to be.”

City face Inter, K League All-Stars and Atletico Madrid in pre-season, before taking on Arsenal in the Community Shield on August 16. They start their Premier League campaign against Bournemouth a week later.

However, they seem set to be without star midfielder Rodri for the start of the season, after it was reported he played through the World Cup with a back injury that will require an operation.
