“I’m excited. This is going to show the world that I’m ready for my world title. At the end of the day, Bryce Mills is in the way of my world title, and I got to stomp on him. So, I’m grateful to all the beautiful fans here,” said Emiliano at the weigh-in on Friday.
Mills entered the bout riding a 16-fight winning streak and expressed confidence that his development and mindset would carry him to the biggest victory of his career. Vargas, however, dismissed the idea that his opponent poses a serious threat.
“Come to me and get your ass kicked. I’m excited about it. He’s going to make all the mistakes for me, and I can’t wait to shine. Let’s go, baby,” said Emiliano about his opponent, Bryce.
Vargas (17-0, 14 KOs) and Mills (22-1, 9 KOs) both successfully made weight, with Vargas coming in at 138.6 pounds and Mills weighing 139 pounds. They are scheduled to meet over 10 rounds for the WBC USA Silver, NABF Junior, and WBO Latino super lightweight titles.
The fight serves as the chief support bout on Saturday’s card in Brooklyn. A victory would extend Vargas’ unbeaten record while strengthening his case for a step up in opposition as he continues his push toward a world title opportunity.
