Emanuel Navarrete’s three-belt unification against O’Shaquie Foster is moving to a smaller San Antonio arena on October 24.
Top Rank originally reserved the Alamodome but will instead stage the super featherweight title fight at Frost Bank Center. The change gives the promotion a more manageable building for a matchup with considerable sporting value but limited mainstream recognition.
“News: Per source, the Emanuel Navarrete-O’Shaquie Foster 130 unification fight soon to be official for Oct. 24 will take place at the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio. Top Rank initially had the Alamodome on hold for the date but has made the change,” said Dan Rafael on X.
A lively crowd at Frost Bank Center should provide a stronger television presentation than rows of empty seats inside the much larger Alamodome. Top Rank can still market the event to San Antonio’s established Mexican boxing audience, with Navarrete serving as the main attraction.
The arena also offers some familiarity for Foster. He defeated Stephen Fulton there last December, giving the Texas native another appearance in his home state against the leading opponent in his division.
Three major titles will be placed on the line. Navarrete holds the WBO and IBF belts after stopping Eduardo Nunez in February. Foster retained the WBC championship against Raymond Ford in May.
Their contrasting styles provide the strongest selling point. Navarrete attacks from unusual angles and uses sustained activity to drag opponents into exchanges. Foster depends on movement, timing and accurate counters, making aggressive fighters pay for careless attacks.
Changing arenas does not reduce the importance of the matchup. The winner will control three of the four major championships and possess the strongest claim to the No. 1 position at junior lightweight.
