Ryan spent too much of that fight waiting for the perfect counter while Romero denied him the openings he wanted. His frustration grew as the rounds passed, and he never found a reliable second plan. Benn will try to create the same mental discomfort through pressure rather than caution.

That strategy comes with enormous danger. Ryan struggles when opponents force him backward in straight lines, but Benn often leaps forward with wide hooks. One reckless entry would place his chin directly in the path of Ryan’s check left hook.

The fight may be decided by which man makes the first technical mistake under fire. Ryan can pull straight back until he reaches the ropes. Benn can become so eager to close distance that he abandons his defense. Each man’s preferred reaction creates the exact opening the other needs.

Spencer Oliver believes too much of the discussion has focused on Benn’s weight cut and not enough on the difference in boxing ability.

“The problem is that people don’t give Ryan Garcia enough credit for his boxing ability,” Oliver said. “He has got boxing ability. We saw that in the amateurs, and that has transferred into the professional ranks as well. There’s much more to it than just the weight.”

That distinction gets closer to the heart of the matchup. Even a successful weight cut leaves Conor facing a quicker opponent with more experience against high-level opposition.

A mid-range boxing match would strongly favor Ryan. Benn cannot spend the night trading jabs and waiting for Garcia to throw first. He needs to crowd him, dig hooks into the ribs, and turn the clinches into physical battles that prevent Ryan from resetting.

Getting inside also places Conor’s punch resistance under examination. He has never faced someone with Ryan’s speed and sudden finishing power. Intensity will mean little if he absorbs clean counters each time he tries to reach the chest.

If Benn survives the early shots, the later rounds become more interesting. Constant body attacks, wrestling, and close contact would test Ryan’s conditioning while forcing him to think when tired. That is Benn’s clearest route to dragging the fight away from clean boxing and into a contest of endurance.

Jordan’s instinct is understandable because Benn carries the attitude needed to make a gifted opponent uncomfortable. Still, that intensity must be controlled. Ryan should have too much speed and accuracy if Conor gives him clean counterpunching opportunities.

Conor has to create disorder without losing his discipline. That is a very narrow line to walk against Garcia.
