Chelsea are considering whether to keep Josh Acheampong or loan him out this season, a report today claims.

Chelsea’s transfer business this window is almost done. There are still players to move on of course, and some uncertainty, but in terms of Xabi Alonso’s first team squad, things are very settled.

One of the few remaining questions is over Josh Acheampong. The youngster started against Fulham on Monday night, but that was with Wesley Fofana out suspended. The club are now weighing up whether he will end up playing enough in the season to justify keeping him, or whether he should finally be loaned to pick up much needed minutes.

The Daily Mail claim that Chelsea, who have long maintained they won’t sell their latest academy produced gem, are “considering whether to keep him where he is or sanction a loan.”

It’s a really tough call. If he’s genuinely the fourth choice centre back and we’re going to play a back three most of the time, it’s worth keeping him. He will get enough games in that case. Equally, if we’re happy with someone like Aaron Anselmino stepping in from time to time, why not loan Josh out and hope he gets 30+ games in the Premier League somewhere?

Xabi Alonso needs to really think big picture and make a decision based on how much usage his young defender will actually get.

    In other news…

Joao Pedro is doing great work both on and off the pitch at Chelsea, it seems.

Enzo Fernandez’s future is uncertain all over again. Chelsea are expecting a formal bid for him this week.
