Bully Ray urges a new WWE heel to learn from Paul Heyman.
WWE fans saw a massive shift in Lyra Valkyria this week as she attacked her tag team partner Bayley in the aftermath of their tag title loss on WWE Raw. When pressed about her actions backstage, Valkyria then stormed off without giving any explanation.
In the event that Valkyria does finally speak next week, WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray encourages her to turn to the creative mastermind and mouthpiece that is Paul Heyman for guidance.
“Here’s what I would do if I was Lyra Valkyria, assuming next Monday night they’re going to hand her a promo. I would take that promo and I would go right to Paul Heyman,” Ray said on Busted Open. “I would hand my promo to Paul Heyman and I would ask him, ‘Can you please explain to me in detail? Even if you have to do the promo for me to show me how I should be speaking, the tone in my voice, the volume in my voice, the inflection in my voice. Show me how I need to deliver that promo.’ And there you have it.”
Looking back on his personal career, Ray noted that he has specifically sought out promo advice from Heyman. Ray recalled asking Heyman how he could maximize his potential as a heel, and furthermore, at what point he should pause for emphasis.
“In my mind, I might go through it, but in his mind is he might say, ‘Bubba, stop right here and don’t say a word until they come down from the boos.’ Well, how do you know they’re going to be booing right there? ‘Because I can feel it.’ You’re asking can Lyra pull off what I just said? I don’t know, but I know what she or any other talent in this situation could do. And I’m only picking Paul Heyman because Paul Heyman is the best talker in the WWE,” Ray said.
On Monday, Paige pinned Valkyria to retain the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships for herself and Brie Bella. When Bayley tried to comfort Valkyria afterward, the Irish star then snapped and launched “The Role Model” into the ring ropes, signaling her heel turn.
