Brazil opened the year with a home win over Colombia. Played in São Paulo on Tuesday, As Yaras completed a 32-20 victory over Las Tucanes. Brazil decided to play as Yaras XV, making it the next-of-XV. For this reason the match was not capped and did not have World Rankings points on the line.

Colombia scored first. Las Tucanes opened the scoring with a penalty to Laura Mejía Diosa. They returned to receive the restart with optimism; however, Brazil took control shortly thereafter with Cláudia Beltran scoring in the right corner after a blitzing break.

One try became two swiftly as Mariana Neves scored from a pick-and-go on 16 minutes. Colombia then scored their opening try with hooker Camila Cardona scoring in the try zone. It was the final score of the half which saw Brazil leading 12-8 at half-time.

An improved Brazilian showing surfaced after half-time. Thalita Costa scored on 43 minutes following a scrum. Brazil added further tries to Carol Pereira, Patrícia Lima and Monalisa Freitas. The four Brazilian second-half tries were more than Colombia was able to produce. Tries to Leidy Soto and a penalty try took Las Tucanes total up to 20 points.

The contest was notably more closer than the previous encounter between Brazil and Colombia wherein Brazil were 58-7 winners, also in São Paulo.
