As mentioned, Blackburn fans address concerns and suggest improvements to the club’s new CEO…
@RoversPundit: Early days, of course, but my initial impression is that he seems like a decent bloke with positive intentions and ambitions for the club. I just hope he isn’t made a scapegoat if things don’t work out, like those before him in the role.
@PropaNortherner: I’ve applied. I wonder if this form of Fan Engagement will BAN those for revealing the truth of what happens in meetings which ALL fans should be privy to, NOT a select few. If #Rovers is to move in a positive direction that begins with having a positive relationship with fans
@Chris_Alfred: I’ve applied, and I would suggest all fans, even those disengaged, do so as well. This could be a chance to have some influence on how the club communicates with us.
@BradleyStirton:
Welcome and good luck, I know my question won’t be acknowledged but will those who made serious mistakes over the past year be held accountable?
1. Suhail who has brought the club into disrepute thanks to his dealings with kit suppliers
2. Rudy gestede the vast decline
@ChrisLindop6: Communication is key Steve. Fans will accept potentially unpopular decisions as long as they’re delivered openly. Tell us the plan & keep us updated regularly. We’ve got a bottom 3 budget, fine. We’ll need to be clever in the market. We need centre mid and attacking options asap!
@mosstoboy: Get Rudy and Suhail out the club and youl already have legendary status 👌
@RoryLarmer: The ultimate question, is Steve a puppet for Suhail. Suhail is the de facto CEO, he just wants the shadows while having the power. Suhail is the cause of the ban for the Lancashire Telegraph. If Steve is the boss, he will lift it. This is the tell of his power. Otherwise we are just going through the motions again. Steve should be meeting @BBCLancsSport and @lancstelegraph and it should be a given. The fans want answers. After 15 years, we are entitled to be skeptical.
Beverly Flood: Steve, thank you for taking the time to engage with supporters. 1. What is the long-term vision for Blackburn Rovers under the current ownership? Specifically, where do you realistically see the club in the next 3-5 years? 2. What level of investment and commitment are the owners prepared to make to not only achieve promotion to the Premier League, but to build a club capable of staying there rather than simply competing for one season? 3. How involved are the owners with the football club on a day-to-day basis? Have they visited Ewood Park recently, and are there any plans for them to meet supporters or visit the club in the near future? 4. Finally, what would success look like for Blackburn Rovers over the next three years, both on and off the pitch?
Warren Gibson: I am a Rover through and through – I just do not see the likes of Gestede and Pasha engaging with fans. They have ignored us for 15 yrs and treat us with utter contempt! Remember pasha was too busy to attend a fans forum! Gestede promised better communication and what does he do ? Makes it even worse than ever! Removing a local media source was a despicable act because these 2 think they are immune from criticism. Until these two are removed and proper football knowledgeable people put in place it will never work 🤬
Jonathan Sola-Brown: Mid table is a steady improvement from last season, heading in the right direction. Playoffs wow that would be a dream. Rovers! in Mowbray we believe. 🔵⚪🙌⚽
Jonatan Elnegaard: Welcome Steve. The owners has previously promissed to get BRFC back to the Premier League. Is this a real ambition, and if so, will there be substantial backing for the manager incl. a significant transfer budget? What is the aim of the current season? How can the club entice more youngsters to start their professional careers with the club and not move at a young age (phillips, finneran, Joseph etc)?
Andy Cichocki: Welcome Steve, we’ve had years of lies, deception and being kept in the dark, all we ask is honesty and transparency in how the club is run! Being open and honest will get the fans onside. What’s the ambition of the club this season and what’s the budget? Welcome on board and best of luck 🔵⚪️
Mike Graham: 1. We have fan survey after fan survey after fan survey. However the supporters never have any feedback on these surveys – why? A feedback loop is one of the basics of good communication. Even if the surveys have negative elements it is important to recognise these; it is also important to look at, and report on, survey trends. 2. Before Steve Waggott left he made it clear that he wanted to only go when he had achieved the return of the ownership of the Senior Training Centre from the owners to Blackburn Rovers. This is critical infrastructure to the future of our club and not having ownership of it is a major risk going forward. What are your intentions re the STC?
Nathan Ince-Sargeson: How do plan to get more fans to Ewood Park and stop losing generations of young fans! Our attendances are an embarrassment and that’s mainly now down to a disconnect between club and fan!
Gareth Hankin: I think the main question we all want to know is how is the hierarchy structured now? Who reports straight to Venkys and who is in charge of the transfer budgets and getting players in. How do you fit in to all of these roles at the club as it should be streamlined for effectiveness. Realistically we only need a CEO and a manager dont see the point in a DOF or anyone interfering and taking a wage we could be spending on coaches or players or even on the ground anything but a DOF really
Daniel Malling Beck: This club has seen a steady decline ever since the Venkys took over in 2010. Many fans have the feeling that this club is being left to rot by absentee owners who in the beginning showed interest but seems to have lost that interest long ago. Fans feel disconnected to what once was a well run family oriented club. What exactly is the ambition for this football club and how are we planning to achieve this? Both result wise but also identity wise.
Walter Dorf: Whats the ambition of the club going forward I’ve been season ticket holder 35 plus years but I’m getting fed up of no ambition at the club. Love seeing academy lads getting a chance but you can’t survive in this league with kids as last season nearly proved. Not sure bringing Mowbray back is a backwards step or not when there was a hungry manager there from Stockport County who wants success. Get some experience through the door or we are going down to division 1. Good luck in you’re new post you will need it once you realise how venkys communicate. RTID
Kevin Ennis: Is there a plan to improve the atmosphere at home games? Given the lack of a positive vibe at home we start every home game at a disadvantage. This will need consultation with supporters and, crucially, a process of rapprochement between owners and the supporters. This can only take place gradually as many attendees and ex-attendees are virulently anti-Venkys. The supporters have good cause to have doubts about the owners’ enthusiasm for the Club as many, including me, believe that Venkys lost interest in the Club once it ceased to be a useful (?) marketing tool for their wider interests.
Simon Dean: What is the transfer budget like and what are we doing behind the scenes to bring some experienced players to the club.
Ste Di Walsh: As a season ticket holder for god knows, 45 years maybe more, I have many questions. Firstly, can you devope a relationship between the Venkys and the fan base? Secondly can you devope a more open and honest dialogue between the owners, club and more importantly the fans. Finally, be more open about the club finances? We need it to become the open fan based club it always has been.
Dale Wilson: What’s Venkys vision for the club and where do they see themselves taking us? What’s their reason for not showing any interest and why do they remain quiet? Also, are you now running the football club and dealing directly with the venkys, or is pasha still running the club and dealing with the venkys?
Stephen Coward: Hi Steve, thanks for asking for questions. How will we cope with the new 85% of income rule that can be spent on players wages when we are currently on over 100%. Surely every year is going to be nearly impossible to progress since the really valuable assets (strikers) from the academy who we can pay a lower wage too while they improve want to walk away from the club for practically free (small compensation to the club). Obviously thinking of Tyjon and Valentin.
