Chelsea’s biggest deal of the summer window ended up being the sale of Enzo Fernandez to Manchester City – the Blues could have ended up doing a lot more business with their Premier League rivals.
According to Sam Lee’s summary of the City window for the Athletic, there were two other major targets that former Blues boss Enzo Maresca wanted to bring to the Etihad.

“Malo Gusto had been seen as an ideal option for right-back, but City had no intention of paying Chelsea’s £80m asking price,” Lee wrote.
“They also scouted Pedro Neto extensively and felt he ticked a lot of boxes for a winger, but they were not willing to pursue a deal for the level of fee Chelsea would have wanted.”
Chelsea fans, by and large, feel the same way about Neto and Gusto. They are players with a lot to offer, especially physically, but they are often very frustrating in the final third, and a good price for either of them would give the Blues the chance to improve.
