Chelsea are preparing to face Brighton right now, and while it’s a fixture which has an increasing amount of history to it these days, the focus remains on events off the pitch,.
The big news today was in the team selection. Enzo Fernandez was left out again today, and that meant more difficult questions for Xabi Alonso, who has understandably been reluctant to reveal too much or commit to a position on the wantaway midfielder.

“We assess what’s best for the team and considering everything, the situation, we need a team that is focused, with everyone involved that’s fully committed and engaged with the game,” Alonso said when asked about Fernandez.
Well, no change there then. He’s not going to suddenly announce that Enzo is going. But of course everything is pointing in that direction now. We wonder just how furiously the negotiations with City are going on behind the scenes as the deadline gets closer.
It seems that Enzo has made his move by refusing to play – it remains to be seen whether he gets his wish of leaving, or whether there are some awkward reunions to come.
