“Tank [is the best fighter in the world]. Everything that them boys [other fighters] got, he got,” Broner told FightHype.
“But the s**t he [Davis] got, [they don’t have].”
Davis has not fought since March 2025, when he retained his WBA lightweight title with a controversial majority draw against Lamont Roach Jr. The result sparked debate among fans, with many believing Roach had done enough to hand Davis the first loss of his professional career.
Since then, Davis has remained inactive while his future in the sport has been the subject of continued speculation. The WBA eventually moved him to champion-in-recess status after an extended absence from competition.
Despite the inactivity, Davis remains one of boxing’s biggest attractions and one of the sport’s most recognizable stars. The Baltimore native owns a record of 30-0-1 with 28 knockouts and has captured world titles in three weight classes.
A return to the ring could be approaching. Negotiations are reportedly underway for a WBA lightweight title fight between Davis and mandatory challenger Floyd Schofield Jr., with the sides targeting a date between mid-September and early October.
