Queen’s 2026: Corentin Moutet faces ATP fine after swearing seven times in BBC interview

Corentin Moutet said he “hopes you guys didn’t get offended” after swearing seven times in a live BBC television interview at Queen’s.

France’s Moutet was interviewed on court after beating compatriot Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard 6-7 (5-7) 6-4 7-6 (7-5) across two days in the first round in London.

He first used an expletive to describe how he felt when Mpetshi Perricard saved a match point with a 142mph second serve.

When presenter Jenny Drummond asked him not to repeat it, Moutet said it three more times.

Drummond apologised for the language but the 27-year-old swore again three times as she attempted to continue the interview, and it was ultimately cut short.

Presenter Clare Balding also apologised for the language afterwards.

Responding to a censored clip of the incident on Instagram, Moutet wrote: “I was just joking, I hope you guys didn’t get offended. Thanks for the love.”

World number 36 Moutet is likely to be fined by the ATP Tour for the outburst.

Moutet has previously been punished by the men’s tour and his national federation for his behaviour.

He was defaulted from the 2022 Adelaide International for swearing at the umpire after losing the second set against Serbia’s Laslo Djere.

The French Tennis Federation (FFT) also dropped him in November of that year -meaning he lost his financial aid – because of his behaviour.

“We cannot condone this type of behaviour. We ask our players and coaches for an exemplary attitude,” the FFT said at the time.
