William Hill News tipster @Footy_Tipster previews Wednesday’s 2026 World Cup game between England and Croatia.

Our Prediction: England To Win To Nil (17/10), England 2-0 Croatia (13/2).

After nearly a week of World Cup action, it’s finally England’s turn to get their campaign underway, they’ll face Croatia on Wednesday at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, as they dream of ending 60 years of hurt this summer.

Now, let’s take a closer look at some World Cup odds and betting angles for Wednesday’s fixture:

    England v Croatia – Wednesday, 9pm

View all available markets at William Hill.

    • England head to North America still searching for their first international trophy since lifting the World Cup in 1966, and hopes are high that Thomas Tuchel can finally end that long wait for silverware.
    • The Three Lions arrive as one of the tournament favourites, and early signs under the German have been encouraging, with England qualifying courtesy of eight wins and eight clean sheets. That momentum has dipped slightly though — a draw with Uruguay and a defeat to Japan halted their run — and while they won both warm‑up friendlies before this opener, the performances were far from convincing.
    • Even so, England should feel confident of starting strongly. They have lost just one of their last eight opening matches at the World Cup (W4, D3), and Tuchel’s side are 7/10 with William Hill to begin their campaign with a victory in Texas.

    • Like England, Croatia also qualified for the 2026 World Cup with an unbeaten record (W7, D1), though they arrive at this opener on the back of mixed preparation — suffering defeats to both Brazil and Belgium before edging past Slovenia in their final warm‑up match.
    • Every tournament seems to bring the familiar narrative of Croatia being an “ageing squad”, yet they continue to defy that label. They have reached the semi‑finals at each of the last two World Cups and went unbeaten across both group stages, underlining why they should never be underestimated on the biggest stage.
    • That said, Zlatko Dalić’s side will be eager to put right their disappointing Euro 2024 campaign, where they failed to win a single match — their worst major‑tournament showing since 2006. They’ll hope to set the tone immediately on Wednesday, and Croatia are 15/4 with William Hill to begin their World Cup with a victory.

    Bet Builder Hub:

    • Result – England To Win – England have won the last two meetings against Croatia.
    • Total Goals – Over 1.5 – Each of Croatia’s last seven games have produced at least two goals.
    • Player To Score – Harry Kane – Harry Kane has scored six goals in his last six games for England.
    • Total Cards – Under 3.5 – Only two of England’s last ten games have seen four or more cards shown.
    • Total Corners – Over 7.5 – Each of England’s last seven games have seen eight of more corners taken.

    2. If the bet wins, an Acca Boost will be added to your bet returns.
    3. The % of your win back as an Acca Boost will be determined by the number of selections in your Qualifying Acca (see full terms for breakdown of Acca Boost available).

    Significant Conditions

      12. 15 selections or above – 100% Acca Boost
    8. The increasing percentage of rewards in the Acca Boost reflects the relative risk of placing Qualifying Accas with a higher number of selections.
