William Hill News provide their best bets and predictions ahead of the Group B clash between Qatar and Switzerland at the 2026 World Cup on Saturday evening.

Four years on from hosting the competition, Qatar will be hoping for a better outcome this time around. They finished as the worst ranked team at the 2022 World Cup and supporters will be hoping that they can spring a shock in their opening fixture of this year’s tournament.

However, they look to be up against it. According to the latest football betting markets, Switzerland are red hot favourites to claim three points, with Qatar as big as 12/1 to come out on top.

    Qatar vs Switzerland Best Bets:

    • Switzerland to win to nil – 4/5
    • Switzerland to score in both halves – 19/20
    • Switzerland to win 3-0 – 6/1

Since qualifying for this summer’s tournament, Qatar’s form has dropped and they are well and truly in a slump. In fact, they have now gone six international matches without a win and confidence is low heading into Saturday’s contest.

In fairness, Group B looks wide open and the incentive is there. Canada vs Bosnia-Herzegovina ended all square on Friday night so a win for Qatar would put them in a fantastic position to qualify, particularly with third place also giving an opportunity to reach the knockout stage.

    Qatar v Switzerland Match Odds:

    • Qatar – 12/1
    • Draw – 5/1
    • Switzerland – 1/5

Looking at Switzerland, the European side arrive off the back of a 1-1 draw with Australia in their most recent pre-tournament friendly but they are in grand form – losing just one of their last 14 matches in all competitions.

That defeat came in a 4-3 thriller against the mighty Germany in March so it would be fair to say the Swiss are in strong form heading into this summer’s competition. They have a deep World Cup pedigree and many believe that they will finish at the top of Group B.

Personally, I can’t see Qatar causing too many problems for this Switzerland side. The Swiss are a polished, well-drilled outfit and they will be buoyed by the fact that the other fixture in the group ended in a draw.

An early goal for the European team will settle any nerves and it could be a fairly comfortable 90 minutes if things go to plan. This is Qatar’s hardest fixture and they’d be best focusing on matches against Canada and Bosnia-Herzegovina.
