A pleasing unbeaten initiation for new boss Cesar Peixoto who was appointed on 11th June. I am liking the return of legendary striker Raul Jimenez to relegated Wolves.
Despite being 35 years old, he has a glittering presence as demonstrated by his three goals for joint-hosts Mexico amid the summer World Cup.

Middlesbrough
- Promotion odds: 9/4

Hoping for automatic promotion having been beaten 1-0 in last season’s EFL Championship Play-Off Final by Hull City. Boro will heavily rely on the prolific input of £10 million signing Will Lankshear. He has notched four League and Cup goals so far.

Southampton
- Promotion odds: 3/1

Nursing an EFL imposed four points deduction reflecting the widely publicised ‘Spygate’ saga. But once Saints quickly progress to a positive points total, I am sure they will begin flying up the table.

Millwall

- Points tally after two games: 6
- Current placing: 1st
Many pundits tipped Millwall to suffer an on-field hangover after losing 2-0 on aggregate to Hull City in the 2025/26 EFL Championship Play-Off Semi-Finals. Although it hasn’t materialised.
The Lions have enjoyed two wins and no goals conceded to date. I note combative midfield man Massimo Luongo is close to a first team recall following 10 months sidelined due to rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament.

Burnley
- Promotion odds: 7/2

- Current placing: 18th
I believe relegated Burnley would have held a much better chance of bouncing straight back to the Premier League if Championship-expert Scott Parker was still in charge.
However he vacated the head coach role by mutual consent on 30th April. His successor at Turf Moor is former Club Brugge and Genk boss Nicky Hayen who has no previous experience of English football. That is a worry in my opinion.
