Saul Alvarez is open to a rematch with Terence Crawford, though negotiations would have to begin at a nine-figure payday.

Asked during a recent interview whether $75 million apiece could lure Crawford out of retirement, Alvarez laughed before raising his asking price to $100 million. The Mexican star also admitted he wants another opportunity after one of the few defeats of his career.

“They need a little bit more for me,” Alvarez said to CBS Mornings. “We can start with that and negotiate. But yes, why not? As fighters, we always want revenge. He is a great fighter. I always believe in my abilities. Things happen for a reason. Looking back, my performance in rematches is always solid. I correct mistakes once I know what went wrong. If the opportunity arrives, it will be amazing.”

Canelo also provided his clearest explanation for the loss. Instead of questioning the result or pointing to physical problems, he admitted the biggest issue was his mindset.

The former undisputed super middleweight champion said training camp went exactly as planned, but he lost his focus once the fight began. In his view, that mental lapse caused him to abandon the fundamentals that had carried him throughout his career.

“You cannot control the results,” Alvarez said. “Even when preparation is perfect, things fall short. I forgot the basics in that fight. The training camp went well, but the focus was not there in the ring. Moving forward, the mental aspect has to match the physical side.”

A second fight remains speculative following Crawford’s retirement announcement. Alvarez made it clear he does not believe the first meeting reflected his best performance, leaving the possibility of another bout if Crawford returns and the financial terms are large enough.
