Tiffany Stratton floated the idea of becoming a two-time Money in the Bank winner, but Carmella was quick to remind her that WWE has already been there before.
The former WWE star jumped into the conversation after footage of Stratton questioning whether anyone had ever pulled it off started making the rounds on social media. In the clip, Stratton wondered aloud what it would look like if she captured the briefcase for a second time.
“What if I was a 2 time Money In The Bank winner?”
That apparently caught Carmella’s attention, because she reposted the clip with a response that was short, savage and straight to the point.
“damn.. somebody get these girls a peacock subscription 🤑”
Carmella has every reason to remember this particular piece of WWE history because her 2017 Money in the Bank run was one of the strangest the company has ever booked. She technically won the Women’s Money in the Bank Ladder Match twice within a matter of days.
At the 2017 Money in the Bank event, James Ellsworth climbed the ladder himself, grabbed the briefcase and dropped it down to Carmella, making her the first-ever women’s Money in the Bank winner. The finish caused so much controversy that then-SmackDown General Manager Daniel Bryan stripped Carmella of the briefcase and ordered another ladder match.
Carmella then went out on the June 27, 2017 episode of SmackDown and won the rematch herself, defeating Becky Lynch, Charlotte Flair, Natalya and Tamina to reclaim the contract. WWE itself later joked about the technicality during an interview with Carmella, reminding her that she had won both the first and second women’s Money in the Bank ladder matches. Carmella happily agreed, saying, “Oh, that’s right! I did win the second!”
She didn’t rush the cash-in either. Carmella held onto the briefcase for 287 days before finally striking on the April 10, 2018 episode of SmackDown after Billie Kay and Peyton Royce attacked Charlotte Flair. Carmella cashed in, hit Flair with a kick and walked out as SmackDown Women’s Champion.
So when Stratton started wondering about becoming a two-time Money in the Bank winner, Carmella clearly wasn’t going to let her own bizarre piece of WWE history get erased. One Peacock subscription joke later, and everybody got a reminder that Mella technically already did it.
