India’s Test squad for the two-match series against Sri Lanka is expected to be announced by Tuesday.

“We will convene a virtual meeting in the next couple of days to pick the squad,” BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia told Sportstar on Saturday.

India will play two Tests in Sri Lanka, beginning with the opener in Galle on August 15 before the second match in Colombo from August 23 to 27. The team is expected to arrive in Sri Lanka well in advance to acclimatise to the conditions and will play a four-day tour game at the NCC Ground in Colombo before the series.

The matches are part of the ICC World Test Championship 2025-27 cycle, with both India and Sri Lanka looking to strengthen their position in the standings as they chase a place in the WTC Final.

    Review meeting after Zimbabwe series

Even as the selectors focus on the red-ball assignment, the BCCI is preparing to review the national team’s recent white-ball performances.

Sportstar has learnt that the board will convene a meeting involving the team management, selectors and other key stakeholders once the T20I squad returns from Zimbabwe. The review, expected to be held at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai, is likely to shape India’s white-ball roadmap over the coming months.

The move follows successive series defeats in Ireland and England. India’s young T20I side, led by Shreyas Iyer, endured a disappointing tour of Ireland before suffering another series loss in England. The ODI team, captained by Shubman Gill, also lost the series in England despite the presence of senior pros Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.

While no knee-jerk decisions are expected, the board is keen to understand the reasons behind India’s struggles before charting the next phase of its white-ball plans ahead of the 2027 ODI World Cup.

The review is expected to involve captain Shreyas Iyer, head coach Gautam Gambhir, Centre of Excellence head VVS Laxman, the selectors and senior BCCI officials.

According to sources, discussions will centre around team selection, tactical approach, execution in overseas conditions and the broader roadmap leading into the World Cup.

Although the BCCI has publicly backed the current leadership group since the change in captaincy earlier this year, consecutive overseas setbacks have raised concerns.

India’s inconsistent performances with both bat and ball, and its inability to build momentum in either Ireland or England, are expected to come under close scrutiny during the review.
