WWE Hall of Famer Fred “Typhoon” Ottman has been hospitalized after being taken to an emergency room. The former WWE and WCW star did not reveal what he is currently dealing with but asked fans to keep him in their thoughts and prayers.
Wrestling fans have known Ottman by several different names throughout his career. He first gained attention in WWE as Tugboat before becoming Typhoon and forming The Natural Disasters with the late John “Earthquake” Tenta. The duo was later inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2025.
Ottman is also remembered for one of the most infamous wrestling debuts ever.
In 1993, he came to WCW as The Shockmaster. He was supposed to make a dramatic entrance by breaking through a wall while wearing a glitter-covered stormtrooper-style helmet. Instead, he tripped, sending his helmet flying off. The botched entrance instantly became one of professional wrestling’s most memorable moments.

Ottman shared a video from his hospital bed and explained that circumstances beyond his control forced him to miss a scheduled appearance at the SWFL Super Card Show in Fort Myers, Florida. The show was scheduled to take place from September 11 through September 13.
He apologized to the promoters and said he would speak with them after learning more from his doctors.
“Unfortunately, due to things beyond my control, I was put into the hospital here this evening. Finally got admitted after I was taken to the emergency room. But I will not be able to be in Fort Myers. And I want to apologize, and I’ll get together with the promoters and my friend Matthew that was bringing me in after I see what’s going on here with the doctors. But I love you all, and keep me in your thoughts and prayers. Hopefully I’ll be seeing you soon,” Ottman said in the video.
Ottman also dealt with a serious health scare earlier this year. In February, the former WWE star underwent surgery after his gallbladder reportedly “exploded” and released poison into his body. The situation led to a lengthy hospital stay. Ottman spent around a month in the hospital before eventually being discharged. The whole thing took a physical toll on him.
His latest medical issue remains undisclosed.
