Last week on WWE SmackDown, Gunther once again lost control and attacked Nick Aldis at the end of the show. Although Cody Rhodes made the save at last, Aldis had already passed out after multiple Sleeper holds from the Ring General. It looks like the attack was severe enough for Aldis to not show up to work for the upcoming few episodes, and WWE once again has to look back to Adam Pearce for help.

This is the second time in recent weeks that Pearce has had to manage both RAW and SmackDown.

After Night of Champions, Nick Aldis was placed on administrative leave because he got physical with Gunther. During that time, Pearce temporarily took over SmackDown. Aldis returned at the start of the July 10 episode after WWE officially reinstated him.

But his comeback didn’t last long. After returning, he made a big announcement by booking CM Punk to defend the WWE Championship against Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam.

Gunther wasn’t happy about being left out of the title picture. Later that night, The Ring General confronted Aldis backstage. The argument soon turned physical as Gunther attacked Aldis, leaving the SmackDown General Manager laid out and unable to continue.

Adam Pearce returns as acting SmackDown GM

WWE has confirmed that Adam Pearce will once again serve as the acting General Manager of the blue brand. The announcement comes ahead of the July 17 episode of SmackDown, as Aldis recovers from the attack.

Pearce shared a video on social media confirming that he will be in charge of SmackDown this Friday.

“Just wanted to let everybody know that after everything that took place last week on the broadcast, I will once again be on the captain’s chair, your acting SmackDown general manager with a ton to address,” Pearce said.

There have been rumors that WWE could be building toward a match between Gunther and Nick Aldis at SummerSlam. WWE hasn’t confirmed anything yet, but Gunther’s latest attack has only made those rumors stronger.
