With Cristiano Ronaldo leaving Portugal’s international camp on Wednesday, William Hill News have priced the Portugal legend at 2/5 to never play for his country again.
The market was formed on Thursday after a reported rift between Ronaldo and head coach Jorge Jesus, following claims that the five-time Ballon d’Or winner had refused to take part in training with the national team.
Ronaldo looked set to retire from international football after the 2026 World Cup but he decided to continue his career in a bid to chase down an incredible 1,000 career goals.
Those who enjoy a bet on football will be eagerly anticipating the next chapter of this story – and it’ll be interesting to see if CR7 lines up for his country or if that’s the end of his international career.
Will Cristiano Ronaldo play for Portugal again?
Spokesperson for William Hill, Lee Phelps, said: “Cristiano Ronaldo withdrew from the Portugal squad in dramatic fashion yesterday and his comments since have sparked rumours as to whether his career with the national team has finally come to an end after 23 years.
“We believe this could be the end of the road for Ronaldo, quoting 2/5 (71% implied chance) that he will never play for his country again.
“Ronaldo recently stated that winning the Nations League again was one of the main aims for the rest of his career and we go 7/4 that he will pull on the national team shirt once again in pursuit of not only the Nations League, but also the elusive 1000th goal.”
