Josh Allen turned 30 last week.

NFL defenses are probably disappointed he’s still in his prime.

Allen’s 30th birthday was May 21 eight seasons into his NFL career, he is alongside some of the most accomplished quarterbacks in the history of the sport before age 30.

Only three quarterbacks have thrown more touchdown passes before turning 30 than Allen. Only six quarterbacks have won more playoff games at that age. And no quarterback in league history has rushed for more touchdowns.

Allen’s age-29 season added another impressive chapter to that résumé.

Despite playing part of the season with a broken bone in his foot, Allen still accounted for 39 total touchdowns with 25 passing and 14 rushing, finishing third in NFL MVP voting. The Bills’ season ended with an AFC Divisional Round loss to the Denver Broncos after Buffalo’s streak of five straight AFC East titles came to an end, and Allen later underwent offseason surgery to repair the injury.

Allen married actress/singer Hailee Steinfeld on May 31, 2025 and the couple’s announced the birth of their first child on April 2, 2026.

Where Josh Allen ranks among NFL quarterbacks before turning 30

    Touchdown passes

Only three quarterbacks in NFL history threw more touchdown passes before turning 30 than Allen’s 220.

    1. Patrick Mahomes, 247
    2. Dan Marino, 245
    3. Peyton Manning, 244
    4. Josh Allen, 220

    Passing yards

Allen ranks sixth all-time in passing yards before age 30 with 30,102.

    1. Matthew Stafford, 34,749
    2. Peyton Manning, 33,189
    3. Patrick Mahomes, 32,797
    4. Dan Marino, 31,830
    5. Jared Goff, 31,759
    6. Josh Allen, 30,102

    Completions

Allen lands fifth in NFL history in completions before his 30th birthday with 2,615.

    1. Matthew Stafford, 3,005
    2. Patrick Mahomes, 2.818
    3. Peyton Manning, 2,769
    4. Jared Goff, 2,763
    5. Josh Allen, 2,615

    Playoff wins

Allen already has eight playoff victories before turning 30, tied with Russell Wilson for seventh-most by a quarterback before that age. He’s also started the second-most playoff games by a quarterback prior to hitting 30 years old.

Only Mahomes, Tom Brady, Joe Flacco, Ben Roethlisberger, Troy Aikman and Brett Favre won more playoff games before turning 30.

Mahomes has the most career wins by a quarterback younger than 30 with 17 victories.

From 1990-2019 only 12 teams made the playoffs, with the top two seeds in each conference earning a bye. The NFL expanded it to 14 teams in 2020.

Allen already owns NFL quarterback rushing touchdown record

Allen’s passing numbers are elite but his legs have separated him historically from most quarterbacks.

He already owns the NFL record for career rushing touchdowns by a quarterback with 79. Allen is also the first player in NFL history with five consecutive seasons of at least 40 total touchdowns.

NFL quarterbacks can define their legacies after turning 30

Thirty used to sound old for an NFL quarterback. Now it mostly sounds expensive.

Modern quarterbacks are playing longer than ever, and many of the defining accomplishments of all-time careers now happen after age 30 rather than before it.

Brady won four Super Bowls after turning 30. Multiple Hall of Fame quarterbacks, including Joe Montana, John Elway and Bart Starr, also won multiple championships in their 30s.

For quarterbacks today, turning 30 represents a wide-open championship window rather than the end of a prime.

That is the stage Allen enters now.
