A reporter asked New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye at his press conference Wednesday during offseason team activities whether he was “thicker” with two c’s this year.

Reporter: “To follow up, rude question, are you thicker with two C’s? Is that the way you’re supposed to say it? Kinda like the hip thing.”

Maye: “Say that one more time?”

Reporter: “Are you thicker with two C’s? Is that how it’s supposed to be, or…

Maye: “I think that’s pause, if that’s anything. I think that’s not the way to put it…um.”

The reporter then clarified that he was asking whether Maye felt better conditioned for the season after tacking on another year of experience on the NFL level.

Maye then responded by saying that’s how the NFL cycle works, in that there’s a tendency to lose muscle mass during the season before getting some rest in the offseason, building it back up again and getting ready for the next year.

Maye, the NFL MVP runner-up, is entering his third NFL season. He just led the Pats to an AFC title in year two and will now look to take another step to a Lombardi Trophy in 2026.
