Friday Night SmackDown aired this week from inside the Arena CDMX in Mexico City, Mexico.
Nick Aldis spoke backstage with the WWE Women’s Champion, telling her he has no choice but to take the title off her if she gets hurt. Chelsea said she spent hours bedazzling the mask, and thanked him for letting her defend the title. Running into Tiffany Stratton, the Buff Barbie said she would be in her corner.
After weeks of conflict, Nikki Bella and Paige were finally set to square off, with the Anti-Diva hurling a beatdown on Nikki right away. The Fearless One could only get glimmers of offense in, and ultimately ended up winning by putting her feet on the turnbuckle.
Cathy Kelley interviewed The Irresistible Forces, of which Nia Jax will be facing Chelsea Green for the WWE Women’s Championship. Jax said that Chelsea should have never been champion in the first place. Her title reign is a travesty, her mask is abysmal, and while Jax is aware that she makes careers when she breaks faces, she’s going to break Chelsea’s face and end her career. Legend says that since Chelsea always needs help, “Tiffy” better not come with any smart ideas because if she does, she’ll have a smarter one, and it will be to break her ribs.
Green tried a suicide dive at the start but was soon thrown over the Spanish announce table by Jax. The champion wouldn’t give up yet as she went for kick-based offenses at Jax, who continued to use her size and power to her advantage. Despite being outmatched in that department, Green lifted Jax’s entire body to the mat and hit a hurricanrana on her.
Legend tried to attack Green, but Stratton got in Green’s way and got hit instead. The distraction almost led to an Annihilator that Green ducked out of, with Green using the face mask to strike Jax into Un-Pretty-Her and helping her win the match.
After a miscommunication from Tatum Paxley that cost her tag team partners Alexa Bliss and Charlotte Flair their match against The Baddies (Jade Cargill, Michin, and B-Fab) at Sunday Night’s Main Event, Alexa and Charlotte were seen discussing Tatum backstage. The two were soon interrupted by Fatal Influence, who laughed at them and mocked the fact that Flair lost the match for her team. Bliss almost got physical, but was restrained by Flair, who said she wasn’t in the mood today for problems. Jacy Jayne reminded Flair that with Money in the Bank around the corner, her mood is only going to get worse and the briefcase and contract will be Jayne’s.
Tatum Paxley then spooked the heel trio, and told Fallon Henley and Lainey Reid to hang on to the Women’s Tag Team Championships considering it was her and Charlotte who beat them in a non-title match last week. Fatal Influence leaves, but Charlotte wants none of Tatum expressing that she still has her back. Flair knows she can trust Alexa, but can she trust Tatum? She’s hoping what happened at SNME was a rookie mistake. The Queen walks off as Bliss reminds Paxley to give Flair some time.
