Steven Borden’s scary injury at AEW All Out is still a big topic of discussion, and Vince Russo thinks the wrestling business is asking the wrong questions. Rather than arguing over who was at fault, the former WWE writer believes the bigger issue is why dangerous spots like that are happening in the first place.

Speaking on The Coach and Bro Show, Russo didn’t blame Tony Khan or AEW for what happened. Instead, he argued that modern wrestlers are taking unnecessary risks in pursuit of big reactions, creating situations where serious injuries become far more likely.

“This is a work—nobody’s supposed to get hurt! That spot, how was either guy supposed to be protecting his opponent from getting hurt? Someone please explain it to me! The odds of getting hurt in that spot were more than 50-50. Your odds of getting hurt in the way wrestling was designed to be were probably in the 3-5% area.”

Russo even pushed back on the idea that the promoter should take the blame, saying this isn’t a case of Tony Khan sending wrestlers out to perform dangerous spots.

“Back in the day, this would’ve been Vince McMahon’s fault. The s*** you’re now seeing has nothing to do with the promoters. Tony Khan is not going out there and telling these guys to perform these spots. We almost literally saw a kid wind up paralyzed in a wheelchair, to never walk again!”

From there, Russo questioned how many more close calls the wrestling industry needs before someone decides enough is enough.

“At what f****** time do we stop? At what time do we say, ‘You know what, bro? This has gone way, way, way too much the other way!’ At what point do we say, ‘You know what? We really got to reel this in. These are real, live humans with families that we are talking about—and what they’re doing during wrestling matches for a pop?’”

Russo didn’t believe anyone in wrestling seems willing to have that conversation right now. Instead, he argued the industry keeps pushing forward until another wrestler gets seriously hurt.

“Who’s gonna be the person to step up and say, ‘Enough!’? Nobody has stopped anything. At what point is this, ‘Okay, man, we get it. Freaking enough of this meaningless, ridiculous bullshit.’”

Thankfully, Borden’s tests came back clear, but Russo doesn’t think that means wrestling should simply move on. To him, the industry just got a warning shot, and the real question is whether anyone is actually willing to learn from it.

Do you agree with Vince Russo, or do you think dangerous spots are simply part of today’s wrestling? Let us know where you stand in the comments.
