In January 2024, Vince McMahon resigned from WWE and TKO following accusations of sexual assault, emotional abuse, and sex trafficking. In July 2026, the civil case was officially closed, but McMahon remains outside of WWE. Some have been surprised by this, and according to Dave Meltzer during “Wrestling Observer Radio,” he doesn’t think McMahon is happy about his current reality.
“Vince’s life was WWE, his whole life, and it was taken away from him. And he absolutely is not happy about it, even though he is probably more wealthy,” Meltzer opined. “He wanted to be in charge of him company, you know, forever.”
TKO CEO Ari Emmanuel recently published a book, wherein he revisited the conversations he had with McMahon following his first exit from WWE amidst the Wall Street Journal report in 2022 that claimed McMahon paid millions in hush money payouts. Per Emmanuel, McMahon assured him the charges were false despite stepping down and handing control to Stephanie McMahon, before returning.
Emmanuel further noted that he was the one who pitched to McMahon to sell WWE and merge with UFC, which ultimately put McMahon in a far more vulnerable position than he was when he was still the chairman of the promotion. At this point, McMahon hasn’t shared any details of the story, though John “Bradshaw” Layfield believes that the former WWE Chairman will pen his own book sometime soon.
