An update is given after a shocking challenge on Newcastle’s Anthony Elanga, with the incident sparking a touchline ‘brawl’.

Elanga had to be stretchered off after being on the receiving end of Valencia’s José Gaya reckless, high challenge on the shin on the 39th minute. Gaya being sent off.

Elanga was replaced by Jacob Murphy, thankfully however, there seems to be no fracture/ligament damage, later up and walking after a contusion to the shin, with Jaissle positive to see him back next week.

Ugrinic gave Valencia an early lead, shooting from distance, with Newcastle then completing a comeback when Yoane Wissa scored twice in the second half.

Elanga has been done with a two footed tackle and I don’t think I’ve seen our squad react so quick.

Watch how fast everyone gets over to Gaya!

Jaissle said: “It was a shocking challenge, that’s right. I was in fear, definitely.

“But now I’m more relaxed because the medical department are almost showing green lights that it’s nothing serious. We are blessed. Hopefully he can be back in the next week.”

Speaking at his post-match press conference, he added, as per Sky Sports:

“First of all, I’m really happy that there are no serious injuries. Anthony, we are happy, and it seems to be okay, actually – that was the most important thing.

“Of course, winning games always helps to gain confidence, but we also knew that we had a hard week behind us. The players did well in the camp; there was a pure commitment in each session.

“We had a hard load, so therefore now we deserve two days off, and then we start again.

“It was a friendly today; we will not smash the locker room now and celebrate a lot.

“We’re quite balanced; we know what it is about. Now it’s pre-season, and we’re still looking to work on it.

“It’s just a journey; we don’t want to hang onto that.

“The victory is higher than it is, but also we don’t see the losses lower than it is then, so we should be quite balanced in our approach.

“We should just analyse the situation and develop from there, and that’s what we’re going to do.

“Now next week, there are things we need to work on, definitely.”

Here’s how fans reacted on an update given after the shocking challenge on Elanga, with the incident sparking a touchline ‘brawl’…

@BandWSheepNUFC: I’m actually buzzing like crazy about this news. 2 main reasons. 1. I do believe he can show his real quality this season. 2. If it was a bad injury, it could have completely changed our transfer strategy for the rest of the summer in a bad way. #NUFC

@ToonTakeover_: Everything else aside, it’s just so good to hear that Elanga is OK. This past week has been so positive for a change, it would have been just our luck to receive a devastating blow like that. He’s looked fantastic in pre-season and had a decent WC. Long may it continue. #NUFC

@THENUFCHUB_IG: Jose Gaya you’re a fucking disgrace, looks like Elanga is going to be okay but to put someone in a stretcher with that sort of tackle, in a friendly is a joke. Nice to see all our lads, players and coaching staff arrive at the scene asap, backing their teammate up #NUFC

@NUFC___NEWS: Elanga not seriously injured thank fuck we can still all but hope that means Jacob Murphy will be allowed to leave 🙏 he’s fucking wank (if you’re an Everton fan he’s class you’ll love him) and that’ll allow us to bring in another quality winger 🤞 #nufc #nufcfans

@gmoney_8779: Thank Christ, Murphy at RW for 6 months isn’t worth thinking about

@NufcJ23: Definitely got away with one there 🤞 #nufc

@Joe081223: Oh thank god. Him and Wissa are gonna take us places.
