Tyson Fury has again taken to social media to take a swipe at Anthony Joshua as the contract negotiations roll on.
Joshua and Fury each agreed terms earlier in the year. Problem was, the terms – specifically location and date – differed on the two contracts.
It is the issue of location, and the further changes that triggers to the previous agreement, which is causing the problem and continues to steal the headlines.
In short, BoxingScene has long understood, Joshua’s contract stipulated a fight in the UK and Fury’s original contract did not.
However, Sela and Netflix, the promoters and broadcaster of the event, are eager to stage the fight in the US to boost the global audience.
For that to happen, and the fight take place in the US and not the UK, Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn has asked for a new contract to be presented to his client.
Fury, not known to wait patiently in silence, made his latest feelings known on social media.
“Joshua, where are you? Still no deal done. It’s getting quite tiring,” said Fury.
“I’ve been down to fight in every location that’s been mentioned – England, Ireland, Vegas, New York, back to England, back to Ireland, back to New York. I’ve said yep, yep, yep every single time with zero stipulations.
“The facts are that I feel like you’re being a coward. I feel like you don’t want the fight and you’re just conning everybody. I feel like you’ve been doing that for years.
“You’ve had many opportunities to fight me, but deep down you’ve never really wanted it, so let’s see if you’re going to man out for a final time,” Fury continued.
“We’re both fucking 37, 38 years old – let’s fucking fight. It’s a boxing match and you’ve been banjoed before plenty of times.
“You’ve been knocked sparked out a few times. So what. What’s the worst that can happen? I’m going to fucking chin you, 100 per cent, but it’s nothing that hasn’t been done before!”
A few hours later, Fury was spotted on social media again. This time he was accompanied by former world heavyweight champion Mike Tyson. He too urged Joshua to sign the contract.
Hearn, while yet again reiterating they had signed the contract but it stipulated a completely different country to what is now being demanded, told Ariel Helwani on Wednesday that the next 48 hours were crucial.
