Tyson Fury is weighing up his options regarding his next fight, currently pencilled in for August, as he warms up for a proposed winter showdown with Anthony Joshua.
Joshua is doing the same when, on July 25, he takes on the unfancied Kristian Prenga in Saudi Arabia.
According to Spencer Brown, Fury’s manager, the 35-2-1 (24 KOs) “Gypsy King” will be taking on sterner opposition with names like Andy Ruiz Jnr and Jarrell Miller being discussed.
“Andy Ruiz has been mentioned,” Brown told Seconds Out. “I know Andy really well, I know his team and I’m going to have a chat with them… But there’s other people, there’s two or three other names that have been mentioned. Whether Andy Ruiz can get ready that quickly, probably not. But he’s somebody to look forward to in the future. I’d love to see Andy back, he’s got a lot to offer the game.
“I tell you who was mentioned, vehemently, and that’s Jarrell Miller. Tyson wanted to fight Jarrell Miller. We could have done the deal very quickly. Jarrell was up for it, Tyson was up for it. [But] I think Jarrell is touring at the moment, he’s doing some stuff in other countries.
“We’ll get somebody and we’ll decide who it’s going to be. It won’t be a big sausage, it will be a well-touted opponent.”
Earlier this month, Ruiz – out of action since 2024 – laid out his battle plan for Fury should he ever get the chance to face him.
“The speed, the pressure and throwing combinations,” Ruiz said. “You know, the head moves but the body stays there, so all my punches are going to be there in his chest, stomach, head, everywhere.
“If I fought him, I think I’d be way too much. Although a lot of people are saying that Fury would box me around, people have to remember that they haven’t seen me when I fight really good people. I come out like a beast, especially when I’m in shape.”
