Tyson Fury has questioned the credentials of the current heavyweight champions, arguing none of them earned their belts by defeating the division’s best fighters.

Fury compared his own championship victories with those of Daniel Dubois, Agit Kabayel and Murat Gassiev, insisting his achievements belong in a different class.

“All them men have been gifted world titles. They’ve never actually fought anyone to get one. How can you compare them men to me?

“No. No, they’re not legends. They’re just names. I’m a bonafide living legend in this game. They’re just names. Names 90% of people have never heard of.

“But that’s not to say in 10 years or 20 years they could be where I am. Maybe so, they could be. Maybe never. But maybe if they work hard enough for the next 10, 20 years then they could be like me,” said Fury.

Tyson’s comments refer to the reshaped heavyweight title picture following Oleksandr Usyk’s decision to relinquish several world championships. Dubois, Kabayel, and Gassiev now hold three of the four major belts, although none defeated Usyk for a championship.

The former heavyweight champion has often measured his own career against previous eras, pointing to his victory over long-reigning champion Wladimir Klitschko in 2015 before ending Deontay Wilder’s reign with the WBC title five years later.

Fury is scheduled to face Mariusz Wach this week in Thailand. He returned to the ring in April, earning a 12-round unanimous decision over Arslanbek Makhmudov. A long-discussed fight with Anthony Joshua remains one of boxing’s biggest attractions, although Fury made it clear he believes the current champions have yet to build resumes comparable to his own.
