Thunder Rosa just added another championship to her résumé, and she had to end a 511-day reign to get it done.
Rosa captured the Mexican National Women’s Championship at CMLL Viernes Espectacular on July 31, defeating India Sioux in the title match. The finish came when Rosa connected with the Fire Thunder Driver and put Sioux away for the victory, giving the AEW star her first championship in CMLL.
Rosa earned the opportunity less than two weeks earlier by surviving an elimination match at CMLL’s July 19 event. She defeated Reyna Isis, Keyra, Garra Negra, Sanely, Skadi, Hera and Olympi to secure the title shot. Sioux entered the match after holding the championship for 511 days. She made two successful defenses during the reign before Rosa finally took the title from her.
The win gives Rosa another major accomplishment outside AEW. She is a former AEW Women’s Champion and currently works under a dual contract with AEW and CMLL, allowing her to compete for both promotions.
Rosa now leaves Viernes Espectacular with her first piece of CMLL gold and another championship added to a career that has already taken her across several major promotions.
