Rey Mysterio has given The Undertaker a glowing endorsement for his work with AAA. He praised the Deadman for helping shape the Mexican promotion without taking away what made it special.
The relationship between WWE and AAA has brought together two worlds that once seemed unlikely to work together. Mysterio currently serves as AAA’s general manager while also remaining active as a wrestler. He recently spoke with The Sun UK about working with Undertaker and Triple H as the promotion continues to evolve.
Rey Mysterio praises The Undertaker’s storytelling influence in AAA
When asked about working with Triple H and Undertaker on the current version of AAA, Mysterio admitted that the acquisition raised plenty of questions at first. However, he said he never doubted that the promotion could benefit from the changes.
“I’m intrigued to see how this is gonna end up with Undertaker being in charge,” Mysterio said.
He revealed that Undertaker made his intentions clear when he first became involved with AAA. Rather than trying to completely change the promotion, The Undertaker wanted to build on what was already there.
Mysterio recalled Undertaker saying, “I don’t wanna change what you guys have already built here. I just wanna add.”
That approach seems to have worked well for the Luchador. He believes it has allowed AAA to introduce elements that longtime WWE viewers know while still keeping the things that make Mexican wrestling unique.
“So, it was perfect. Now the fans around Mexico who are not accustomed to maybe seeing long storylines or sequences of matches, or sequences of stories that lead into a particular or special match – that is now all happening. It’s like the perfect formula for the Mexican fan base. And for the rest of the world, it’s something that they’ve been watching for years in WWE. So, I think Undertaker is doing incredible there and I’m just enjoying every moment, you know, every time I step into AAA. It just brings back so many good memories. This is where I kicked off,” Mysterio said.
The praise means even more given Mysterio’s history with AAA. The legendary luchador first appeared for the promotion in 1992 and was part of its first TV show. His current role with the company makes the moment even more special.
